Sriracha

Sriracha came to us as an owner surrender. He was over a year old and had not been neutered yet, so naturally, he came with some behavioral issues as well. Let’s just say his testosterone was raging even after he came back from his neuter surgery. The cafe owner fostered him in her home, and worked with his aggression issues. Over time Sriracha became more trusting and turned into a sweet and affectionate cat towards humans, but he was still unsure about sharing with other cats cats. He was in the program during the coronavirus pandemic, so he had time at the cafe owners house to calm down before going to the cafe. When he finally did get to the cafe, he had to learn all over again how to be a polite boy. After being in foster for several months and then another 3-4 month stay at the cafe, we were able to find him a home using our powers of social media. We started a social media campaign to get him adopted, and it worked on the first day! Sriracha is now happily living in a cat free home with just a dog as a companion.

Stacia

Stacia was one of the first cats to pass through our Winston-Salem store. She was found as a stray by a local veterinarian who was able to rescue her. She has a cleft lip and a funny eye, but it doesn’t stop her from being the most affectionate cat! She was adopted by a lovely couple, and a few months after her adoption we got the sad news that she had contracted FIP, a disease that is almost always fatal. However, they were lucky they reached out to us because we were able to refer them to our rescue partner, Triad Independent Cat Rescue, who has experience with a new drug that is effective against FIP. With help from the rescue, the owners were able to get their hands on the medication and start the long process of treating Stacia - cats must receive daily injections for several months for the drug to work. After the treatment we received this message from the owners.

“I just wanted to let you guys know that Stacia officially finished her observation period post treatment on the 6th of this month! And it was all because you guys pointed me in the right direction and because enough people really cared about her getting the help she needed. She’s the best cat I’ve ever met and I’m so grateful for finding her at your Winston-Salem cafe!”

Boots

Boots came to us because she was a victim of abandonment. A house was in the middle of a foreclosure and we were alerted by a family member that was cleaning the residence that a cat was abandoned there for nearly a month. Surprisingly, Boots did not have any urgent medical needs from being left unattended for so long. The house was being foreclosed the day after she was found abandoned, so it was urgent that we found a foster home for her. Through the help of the Crooked Tail team and our rescue partner, Red Dog Farm we were able to save her before animal control took her away during the foreclosure. She came into the cafe and within a short amount fo time she found the purrfect family who fell in love with her and wanted to spoil her rotten to make up for her abandonment by her former owner.

Tinkerbell

Tinkerbell and her daughter, Tallulah, came to us back in the fall of 2019. She and her daughter, Tallulah, were brought into a veterinary clinic to be euthanized because the former owners were going through a separation. The vet refused to euthanize two healthy and happy cats. The vet reached out to our rescue partner, Red Dog Farm, and through the partnership with the Crooked Tail, we were able to give these ladies a second chance. Tallulah was a very shy kitty, but she found her furever home in the winter of 2019. Tinkerbell was still looking for her home when the coronavirus pandemic started and she was taken out of the cafe and into the cafe owners home. Tinkerbell received several adoptions applications, but none of them stuck. Ultimately, the the Crooked Tail team decided that she wasn’t going anywhere. In May of 2020, after several adoption applications fell through, we knew it was destiny for Tinkerbell to stay at the cafe and live out her golden years. Crooked Tail is committed to making her last years her best years. After all, she has an entire corner of the cafe devoted to her!
